The revered monarch expressed his displeasure while addressing Muslim faithful on his arrival in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital, on Tuesday.
He called on Nigerians to disregard such reports which he said were capable of causing disaffection in the country.
The sultan said Nigeria is going through a difficult time and that all citizens must support the federal government.
He also appealed for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
“The level of negative news we hear these days about our country worries me. Especially in the social media.
“All we need is prayers for God to give strength and guide our leaders right,” the Sultan said.
He said Islam as a religion dislikes extremism, adding that those involved in suicide were acting against the principles of the Qur’an.
Special Adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike on Niger-Delta Development Commission, Aribitoye Okiri said the Rivers state government has created an enabling environment for all religions to thrive.
